The Piggable Y Fitting (PYF) allows pigs to pass from a full-size or reducing lateral line into a trunk line. It provides two inlets separated by an angle of approximately 30°. The angle may be more or less for intelligent pigs, depending on pipe diameter and pig manufacturer, and the configuration can be either symmetrical or asymmetrical.
The Piggable Y Fitting will pass commonly used pigs, including foam-type swab pigs, articulated scraper pigs, spheres, batching pigs, gauging pigs, and intelligent pigs. In general, pigs longer than 1.5 to 2.0 times the nominal pipe diameter should be articulated, and gauging pigs should be assembled with gauging plates mounted on the rear end of the pig rather than on the front end. The Piggable Y Fitting is available with either a weld-end configuration or with flanges and pipe pups. PYFs can be designed to suit all ANSI or API pressure ratings for most pipe sizes.
Design Specifications
Piggable Y Fittings are designed in accordance with ASME Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 2, unless another recognized code is specified. Material and configuration of the butt-weld ends are in accordance with ASME B16.5 or MSS SP-44 to match the pipeline.
